METAVERSE EXPLAINED: What Is It?

Ever since FACEBOOK Renamed itself ‘META’, discussions and debates all over social media have become rife. And we couldn’t get enough of what actually seems to be the nigh future of social media and our lives envisioned on a 3-d platform!

According to a popular American site, Author Neal Stephenson is credited with coining the term “metaverse” in his 1992 science fiction novel “Snow Crash,” in which he envisioned lifelike avatars who met in realistic 3D buildings and other virtual reality environments. But what exactly is the metaverse and how come we came this far?

Since then, various stepping stones have been laid by several artists seen in different movies, series and even the onset of Virtual Reality or simply VR.

The Metaverse would be a similar environment for people to live their digital ‘avatars’ which are, of course, 3d. Video and other ways of communication incorporating augmented reality. Or a hyper-real world we live our second lives in. Some even explain this as it sounds like some creepy thing Mark Zuckerberg thought up to capture all our information and sell us more ads. (And likely create even scarier conspiracy theories, fake news, and the rest.) Ah! We’ve all read about those cases and how Facebook, now Meta managed to vindicate itself from these allegations. Anyways, this idea is well, being incorporated by several tech giants like TESLA, APPLE and even MICROSOFT.

Where would this business go?

Well, people assume that metaverse is in its initial phase where the internet once was. But we see how things have evolved. Social media is like the identity we live and METAVERSE is the more upgraded version of how our future is supposed to look like. Mirrored behind screens, everyone would be seen living the same but of course, it would be unreal.

Well, unlike how gaming has evolved over the years. Where characters look more ‘human’ surprisingly! but lack the feature of physical touch and come under a programming language we can’t converse with but with the very onset of the metaverse, perhaps the things can get more real. With AI integrated assistants and features that can make us feel more ‘in it’.

Gaming would obviously be a part of the metaverse and it can really look like that episode from NETFLIX’S ‘BLACK MIRROR’ y’all must have related to. Well, yeah they predicted it years ago in 2011.

How exactly is it social media?

Well, the social media tech giant META has been working on it. This seems like a big deal to its supporters who claim that the platform can be used by friends for interactions, community engagement, virtual trips, concert. Ahh! This list can be endless.

Basically, everything we use social media for plus more. It’s gonna be massive but cool.

But, how long do we have to wait for metaverse?

As the founder of META, Mark Zuckerberg said, it might take this industry nearly 10 years to go mainstream. And well, in the next 20 years this dream would be a reality. Well, where everything would be more than real.

THE METAVERSE is a budding business where companies are trying to collaborate and set up different features on a massive scale. Like on several websites where the products can be available as their 3d rendered copy. And we can feel how something would actually look on us without wearing them.

The DECENTRALAND

According to WIKIPEDIA, Decentraland is an open-source 3D virtual world platform. Users may buy virtual plots of land in the platform as NFTs via the MANA cryptocurrency. It was opened to the public in February 2020 and is overseen by the nonprofit Decentraland Foundation.

Well, one important question! How is metaverse and NFTS related?

I know, I saved it for the last. But that’s the most legit question one could ask. According to binance.com, Players can use NFT avatars as access tokens to enter and hop between different locations within the metaverse. In this case, NFT avatars serve as an extension of our real-life identities, where we have full ownership and freedom to curate and build our virtual identities in the metaverse.
